| 15.05.07: THE 8TH SISTER IS (AB)USED ONCE AGAIN BY FRP
The future for art and cultural diversity look scarey if they gain more power in Norway.
Last Friday NRK (national TV) news showed an excerpt from the ultra-conservative party FRP's election campagne in realtion to their arts policy. Under the gun was Arts Council Norway which they described as being colonized by elitists. Laughing and cackling like a pack of hyenas over several art projects that have received funding, including Motherboard's project "The 8th Sister", they declared the arts council a garden party of cultural elitest snobs that they intended to "wash clean" with high-pressure hoses. When you add to this the further restrictions they wish to make on immigration, the prospects for cultural diversity look bleak if they gain more support here in Norway - and one wonders who the elite really are.
Just to get an idea of how FrP behave at their meetings, take a look at this excerpt from the news:

(Both FrP and the Conservative Party have developed a ridiculous strategy to fight for votes in the next elections - they are both trying to appeal to the common person (what ever that is - here its called "folkelig"). Part of this strategy inculdes down-styling their dress code, keeping out immigrants, and slagging off Arts Coucil Norway.)

HOLMGANG

The 8th Sister was one of the main subjects in a heated debate on TV2's
chat show Holmgang . Norway's cultural elite were gathered for a heated
debate where guests included Espen Thoresen Hværsaagod, Jan Teigen
(bottom left), Jon Bing (top left) and Anders Heger. Knut Haavik (top
right), controversially appointed as a board member of Arts Council Norway,
referred to The 8th Sister as the worst example of how to waste public
funding.
