1. The deliverance

After four days of hard negotiations with the customs at Entebbe Airprot, the computers and equipment finally arrive at the Afri Art Gallery, Lugogo, Kampala.
2. Utra Hot workshop nerds

Workshop participants don nerdy glasses to prepare for their digital experience and Per gives an introduction to working with the mac.
3. Ultra Hot Food

The muzungos are introduced to Ungandan cuisine at the first workshop lunch. A fresh fruit snack is served each day.
4. Working together

While some participants were experienced in working with digital media, others had no experience at all. Introductory courses were given in audio/visual production and processing. Participants were also introduced to concepts of performing with/through digital media using the text to speech properties of the mac, Haptec's "Virtual Friend" and the digital psychologist "Eliza", as well as live visual jamming using "Xpose". Experiments using visual feedback/live camera/movement were also undertaken.

Several of the Ultra Hot men expressed a desire to learn about classical ballet, and the result - daily classes for those who wished to participate.

5. Images created using Photoshop

Participants working with images impressed the muzungos with their tactile relationship to the mouse as a drawing tool.

While most participants spent more time creating images from scratch, some investigations where made into manipulating existing images.

7. Image snaps from live visual jamming/synthesis/feedback experiments

The source material for this experiment was a documentation image of a sculpture. The aim was to explore alternative methods of presenting art work in an exhibition context by using live performance techniques to transform the art objects on display.

These image snaps were taken from preliminary experiments using live camera input.

These snapshots are from movement sessions using video feedback and the inbuilt negative effect on a dv camera (devised by Ellen Røed).
