WORKSHOP

In collaboration with the UAA we wish to share the knowledge that we have built up over several years of working with networked performance and art production. Our intention is to work together in a social, peer-to-peer environment of knowledge sharing and art/culture jamming where we can share experiences and encourage playful experimentation with both digital and analogue tools and skills. During the first day of the workshop participants from both Norway and Uganda will give a presentation of themselves, their work and their visions for the workshop and beyond. This presentation will take the form of a mini-seminar, and while the main intention is to get to know each other, the presentations will also be open to the general public. After 14 days of intensive exchange the workshop will culminate in a public presentation/performance that reflects both the social and artistic process of this exchange period. We have absolutely no idea of what this will be, but the aim is to create a relaxed setting that both artists and public can enjoy.

During the workshop each participant will contribute with his or her own personal angle/competence. Roughly speaking, from the Norwegian side, Per Platou, Ulf Knudsen and Amanda Steggell will provide assistance in working with computers in the field of visual art and performance, while Jørgen Knudsen will mainly assist with digital sound production.

The workshop model described above is based on Hot Wired Live Art, a model previously developed by Motherboard to encourage exchange, artistic development and network building between international artists. HWLA 1 took place at the Bergen Centre for Electronic Art (BEK), Norway, in January 2000 and was followed up in August/September 2001 with HWLA 2. HWLA 2 was organized by Michelle Teran and took place at the BANFF Centre for the Arts, Canada. Through these events an informal international network of artists has emerged. The participants continue to collaborate and support each other through various projects. It is our hope that such a level of exchange and continuity can be reached with artists in Uganda when U-HWLA is over.

POST U-HWLA PART 1

U-HWLA will be documented on this webspace as a public resource. In addition, we hope that it will be possible for UAA artists to take part in future projects organised and hosted by Norwegian associations for electronic art - BEK and Atelier Nord. In this respect we will continue to work towards developing an adequate social and technical infrastructure for the creation and production of networked performances between artists in Uganda and Norway.
