The Motherboard project steps quickly over the political correctness of post-orientalism and enters neo-orientalism, to mingle with "the other" in the only way we know - with orientalist tendencies exposed, and cross references from our lives in free flow.

As modemites we partake in the collective drama of telephonia. We trash the tired expressions of realtime, recorded memory, virtual space/presence/time, and dig down into the Motherboard to create experiences of here and now. Presence is presence - call it physical or virtual; either you got it, or you ain't: on- or off-line, you either feel it or you don't. Space is space; you're in it. Time is what you make of it.

Movement - a shifting of digital information, combined with human interaction and interpretation with/of this information, create the drama. Virtuality is the dream inbetween the electronic signals, the digitally connected, and the digitally homeless.

Cyber sick and tired of the continual regergitation of greek mythology and christian martyrdom in present day western art projects, we look to Islam as a counterpoint to our postmodern lifestyle. Slashes and dots crash and merge into the curving linearity of muslim life. Mesopotamia hangs around us like oriental essence on white skin. A short-but-sweet journey to Cairo last year gave us firsthand experience of a concentrated Arabic culture embedded in an exotic, multicultural metropolis. We compare and contrast these experience with the Islamic technopolis we experience through Islamicity and other Islamic resources on the internet.

Neo-orientalism shall be a non-judgemental juxtaposing of impressions, shapes, writings, calligraphy, films, images, rituals, sounds and icons - the result of stepping between the parallel lines separating cultures, and cross-referencing media dogmatism.

Five prayer times: five themes: five stages. Five themes are explored and expressed through on- and off-line installations and performances involving dancers, musicians, and video artists, all with net connections, all contributing with their own personal and collected material organised within the Motherboard. Each theme has its main expression in a single event connected to specific sites/times/dates. Each theme is present throughout the project in smaller or larger doses.
