I EMAILED INFOCUS.NO
SUBJECT: PROJECTOR FOR THE EMOTION ORGAN
JUNE 2006

I have been continually hunting for a solution for projecting imagery out of The Emotion Organ. One of the main problems has been to find a projector small enough to be installed within the organ, while giving adequate image quality.

Scanning the net for alternatives, I suddenly came across a projector that seemed too good to be true. InFocus LP120 is the model name.

It measures just 94mm front to back, is 258mm wide and 52mm thick, and weighs 0.9kg. It has 1100 ansi lumens (the worst review I found suggested that actual output measured more as 650) and a native resolution of 1024 x 768. The minimum distance from projector to projection surface is 1.5m, and the max, 5m. There are three input ports, all crammed on one end of the projector: an S-Video socket, a 3.5mm audio input, and an M1-DA port. Not extensive, but good enough for my use. The main drawback with this projector is the price, so I emailed to InFocus. No to find out if they could consider sponsoring my project by supplying me with a projector at a reduced cost.

One day after sending my email I got a telephone call from Thomas Kristensen, sales manager for InFocus products in Scandinavia, who offered me a demo model at a very reduced price. Two days later the projector was in my hands! I tried it out at home, showing my sons my recently acquired dvd "Ten Films", Oskar Fishinger - a new product from The Center for Visual Music. It looked great, and the image quality compared to the size of the projector is quite a kick. My main concern is that the projector fan makes more noise than I'd envisaged, and it does get quite hot.
