PSYCHEDELIA BETWEEN TERROR AND SC-FI
LARS BANG LARSSEN
OFFICE OF CONTEMPORARY ART, OSLO
20 SEPTEMBER 06
Of course the summer of love in 1967 was about good vibes, but more than that
it presented a radical, ecstatic vision which entailed getting rid of your
old self in order to engage in a future collective togetherness. This talk
will focus on notions of ecstasy and community in examples of psychedelic
art and culture from the US, Europe and Latin America.
Lars Bang Larssen is a free-lance critic and curator responsible for group
shows, including Pyramids of Mars, Fundamentalisms of the New Order, The Invisible
Insurrection of a Million Minds and Populism. Co-curator of the 1998 Nordic
Biennale Momentum, he has written about the art and culture of the 1960s and
regularly contributes to Frieze and Artforum. Larssen currently teaches at
Konsthögskolan in Stockholm.
