EMOTION ORGAN
DISMANTLING THE ORGAN
19 Feb 2005

I have made contact with the people who produce the KS-61 MIDI Controller previously described in the file "Organ Modification: Physical inputs" (see timeline to the right!). This control strip mounts underneath the black keys of the organ like this ...

... and once installed, converts the analogue keyboard into a midi keyboard. The control strip needs 1.6cm vertical clearance when the keys are not pressed down and is 2.45cm wide.

In order to see if the control strip will fit inside the pump organ I had to partly dismantle it. I asked my colleague, Per Platou (cheers Per!), to help me screw it apart, while I documented the process, labelled the parts and archived the screws so I have some chance of putting it back together again.

HERE is a process/archive chart (with digital photos!).

I have sent the documentation to the MIDI 9 folks who will let me know if this installation is possible, and if so, what the best method would be to install it. The control strip costs $795 plus import costs, and seems to be an excellent solution for my project.
