PRODUCTION MEETINGS AND DISCUSSIONS WITH PER PLATOU
Per Platou has been my partner in crime for the past nine years or so and
together we direct the Oslo-based artist group Motherboard. Here is Per's
blurb cut-and-pasted from the Motherboard website:
Studied media theory, criminology, history of ideas and film/drama in
Oslo and London. Background in alternative media, mainly F.EKS magazine (90-97)
and Radio Nova (84-93). He founded DBUT in 1989, an alternative distribution
network, record company and production company for sound, film, art and media.
In 1995 he started NOOD, a project dedicated to sound exchange on the internet,
and has since then directed and produced a number of sound/art works and workshops.
Freelance journalist on digital art and hacktivism, curator, and board member
of the Norwegian Short Film Festival.

Generally speaking, the productions that are featured in "Mind, the
Gap" are produced through Motherboard, initially conceived and planned
in close collaboration with Per, and then often involving other artists. We
adopt varying degrees of what Sher Doruff calls the "working alone -
together" model. The meetings I am referring to here mainly concern the
writing of grant applications for intended productions ("Ikon" and
"The 8th Sister"), but equally evolve around areas of interest we
wish to pursue. So issues of process are tightly connected to production -
where process may also be the product (for example, Motherboard's Glitch project
(2001) resulted in the organising of an international symposium that explored
the possibility of extending Glitch in an art context beyond the realms of
Glitch music.) Needless to say this working method has a strong degree of
cross-pollination about it. This is why the areas for meetings/communications
that occur over a longer period of time are represented as grey areas on the
timeline (to the right!). It is impossible to define when the conversation
started and when it has stopped.
